Have any of you stumbled across a scene being filmed for a TV show or movie, or been cast as an extra?

Not myself, but my son. He regularly stumbles across streets that have been cordoned off for film shoots in downtown Toronto during the summertime, and a friend of his did wind up as an extra in the movie "Kickass" when that was being filmed. Ottawa (where I live) has had a few American films do scenes here...mostly for winter shots, though I did have to laugh when some scenes for a film ("Sacrifice", w/ Christian Slater and Cuba Gooding, Jr.) were done here a couple of years ago because the location scout thought that it was perfect for capturing the 'inner city' feel. Inner city? LOL...Ottawa doesn't come close to having an inner city. (I believe that movie fell to obscurity levels even before it was released.) Or the Paul Newman / Joanne Woodward movie, "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" - winter scenes filmed not far from where I lived in Ottawa. Or a more recent and well-known flick, "The House at the End of the Street".
Every time I think of American movies/series related to 'Hollywood North', I think of the X-Files, filmed in Vancouver for the first 5 seasons. Now that's a show which made it big, even though it was filmed in Canada. But in the end, the reasons for filming in Canada usually come down to one: it's cheaper.
