Wow, I guess everyone has their own take on things. I find Montreal to be very hospitable. I enjoy myself immensely when visiting.
As for career prospects, that's a different kettle of fish since having very good french is obviously an asset.

The key word is WHEN VISITING. If you are a tourist, sure, they are hospitable.
When you walk into a bank and say, "Hi I'm moving here from the U.S./Ontario and need to open a bank account" you'll have a different sort of reception.
