90k is very different from 40k. I will probably choose 90k living Bagdad compared with 40k here Lol.
Yes Detroit actually has some very nice even upscale satellite cities. I heard Troy, MI for example is very middle class and you hardly see any Detroit kind of decline. The truth is whoever makes 90k is very unlike to live in Detroit.
40k in Toronto? I will move somewhere else for sure. Not worth it unless I am 23.
Ok now we are on the same page... Though PLEASE Botti even with 180k - stay clear of Baghdad
This is one of the things that I actually care about too, as much as some people try to down play it. I'm clearly aware that the bad reputation that America has in terms of the stereotype: fat people, guns, school shootings, bombing other countries, it all has no affect on me at all. But in terms of just choosing to live in a country without such reputation and only has a reputation of being peaceful and civil is worth a lot for me. Not a whole lot, but a big part.
If you look hard enough, you can find things you are ashamed of in any country.
True, but some ashamed things are clearly stronger than others. The point is not having to look hard to find those certain ashamed things.
I have resided in quite a few countries in my life and trust me I did not have to look too hard to find major issues. So I suspect if you did the same, you would share the view that at the end of the day no ones hands are clean.

Like I said, some more than others. And everyone has a different definition and scale of what "clean" means. Of course there doesn't exist a utopia, I think a lot of people understand that.

I think this is very true.. Some countries do better than others in certain measures but EVERY country has its dark underbelly when it comes to a whole array of issues.. The reasons behind it are as complex as the country, its people and its history and no two are alike so while its easy to sound off all the things that are the most positive, its always the uncomfortable and more difficult path to be honest about those things that truly are shameful.. Canada does many things right but like any other country - there's a lot of sweeping things under the carpet.. Its like a nice hotel room.. When you first enter it everything looks great and clean, it smells fresh and than you start looking under the bed or behind the TV Stand..

Fair enough.
I guess after living in Turkey and studying the conquests of the Ottoman Empire, America seems quite tame in comparison.
