What would be the requirements for a permanent resident of the United States traveling to Canada from plane? What about crossing the border by land? Are these the same requirements? I'm a Citizen of Central American and a permanent resident of United States.

Is it possible that even with a green card and a passport and a driver's license that they can deny my access? Why would this be?

Determine if you are inadmissible

Note: This information is for guidance and reference only. A decision on your admissibility can only be made when you apply to come to Canada or at a port of entry.
Some people are not allowed to come to Canada. They are known as “inadmissible” under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).
There are a number of reasons you can be found inadmissible, denied a visa or refused entry to Canada under IRPA, such as:
  • security
  • human or international rights violations
  • criminality
  • organized criminality
  • health grounds
  • financial reasons
  • misrepresentation
  • non-compliance with IRPA or
  • having an inadmissible family member
More detailed explanation of the reasons for inadmissibility.
Normally, if you are inadmissible to Canada, you will not be allowed to enter. If you have a reason to travel to Canada that is justified in the circumstances, you may be issued a temporary resident permit.
If you have committed or been convicted of a crime, you have a few options.
If you have been convicted of driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, you will probably be found criminally inadmissible to Canada. But as of March 1, 2012, you may be able to get a temporary resident permit for one visit without having to pay the C$200 processing fee. Find out more.

To add to the helpful information already provided.. and you really should click on the links people are suggesting as the answers to most questions you may have are well documented.

If the border agent suspects you are not coming just for a visit as a tourist and are planning to work or stay in Canada they can turn you away.

to add to this: they can turn you away for anything. they don't even need a reason....just a suspicion.

if they find you are planning to work in Canada without having the proper means to do so they will not allow you to cross, no question

Why are you getting so crazy about it? Just take your passport and the green card and go. If you have nothing to hide, nobody will deny you an entry, either you cross by land, by sea or by air. Don't get scared by what some other posters said. Just don't dress like a gang member.

By the way, in case you are paranoid, there is normally less scrutiny if you cross by land. In addition, if you cross by land, you don't need to show your passport, just the green card.

Surely take your passport with you, but show just your green card, you don't need to show your passport. Showing your green card only is good enough.

Have a nice trip!
