I've never experienced much confusion with the name when in conversation. I always assume that people are talking about the city that's right by us as opposed to the one that's almost 4,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean.
And the odd time when there is any confusion it's fixed within 2 seconds... so I don't see the big problem?
A bigger problem I've been having recently is people keep thinking I'm referring to Grand Theft Auto when I'm talking about the GTA. It's embarrassing having people think I believe I was born and raised inside a video game.
There are more cities/towns in the world than could possibly all have phonetically pronounceable spelled names. Maybe you'd be happy if London Ontario became the globally unique CA-N5V-0A0 (the metro area called "N5V" locally, for short) and I would live in US-77901.
Of course, tourists would no longer stop to take pictures of the post office sign that said CA-A0B-1P0, where there used to be a sign that said "*****". (Sorry, boys and girls, Nanny won't let you see that. Will I risk being infracted if I post this obscene picture of a Canadian post office?)
Because some of us (including myself) have dreams of having the U.S. annex Canada in the long(er)-run.
And Mexico? And Central America? And the Caribbean islands? And South America? And Asia? What the hell, grab it all, America's got 90% of the world's military firepower, what good is it if they don't use it?

Wouldnt it be easier for you to use the freedom to just fill out the papers and immigrate to the USA? Rather than force every one in Canada to accept being taken over by a country many dont particularly like .
