I currently live in Montreal, I'm considering moving to Cornwall, ON. Anyone can shed some light on what it's like to live there? If I were to commute to work here in Montreal, how long would it take including morning/evening traffic? Is it easy to find work in Cornwall?
It's doing ok but it would be a very different lifestyle from Montreal. Some Montreal neighbourhoods have more population than the entire city of Cornwall.
You can probably get a job there (depends on your field of course).
I would NEVER commute to Montreal from Cornwall. That would be a nightmare. It's over 100 km.
That would be a long commute, if the idea is just to leave Quebec and still work in Montreal, South Lancaster might be worth a look, it will shave a half hour off that commute time from Cornwall. http://goo.gl/maps/tnSRM..
If you work in the West Island or Ville St Laurent, on the highway 40 west of Cavendish, the commute should be anywhere between one hour and one hour and a half.
What people don't realize is that if you are working in West Island commuting from Ontario it is faster than commuting from the South Shore.
If your job is downtown forget it, it will be too long.
Well I would be commuting to Saint Laurent. Currently I drive from NDG to work in Saint Laurent and with traffic it takes 50 minutes. I figured if traffic isn't bad on 40 in the mornings then 70 minutes isn't a huge add over my current commute.
70 minutes may not be too long once but later you have to do it again. Plus if traffic gets snagged sometimes then even more time. Plus all the extra wear and tear on you and the car adding up every week, month and so on. Maybe if you do it have a back up plan if it all gets to be too much. Too bad you couldn't test drive it to see how it goes for a couple of weeks.

Why not just stay in NDG? or move to St Laurent. As a combined 3 hour commute every day is going to get old real fast.

Yeah good advice. I just went to visit Cornwall today, the houses look really old. Even though they are cheap, it's probably not a good idea to live there.
