Van or Montreal. I don't like Toronto outside of the core at all; it's hideous.

I voted Montreal, but I moved from there to Vancouver which was my second choice and it's pretty great in it's own ways.

Toronto takes a little getting used to. But once you get used to it, it's Toronto all the way.

For me, level of friendliness and aesthetic charm are what's important in determining which city is 'best.' By this standard, Montreal wins hands down. Halifax would be a close second. Toronto would be dead last.

I like cities with personality and culture, with a sense of place that's unique.

So out of this list there is one city that stands out far ahead of the others.

Sports are a huge factor for me. NHL, MLB, NBA, MLS, NLL, CFL, AHL... And they're all right downtown. No other Canadian city comes remotely close to Toronto as far as variety.

Concerts as well. If a band is touring North America, they'll probably have a Toronto date on there and I routinely see other cities bitching about the GTA getting multiple dates while they don't get any.

For those reasons I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Toronto for earning a living.

Montreal for leisure.
