If this is just about you, you'd need to drill down more to get a better and more meaningful response - otherwise it'll descend into a c v c gong show...
One would need to evaluate what type of city is their mode: What do you like to do for entertainment and leisure.. Would you prefer a city with a more Euro feel with perhaps a bit more of a laid back lifestyle/atmosphere or a modern and growing city that is more go go go. Do you prefer living in a large metropolis or a smaller more manageable city.. etc.. The more you drill down by your preference(s) - the more the best city for you will become apparent.
For me personally I like large urban jungle type cities with a full range of options, urbanity, great ped vibrancy, strong arts and cultural scenes. In the Canadian context the only two that would suit me for my own criteria are Toronto and Montreal with Vancouver a more distant 3rd.
I'm a born and bred Vancouverite so my views are totally prejudiced. I'm a fairly outdoor kind of person, so easy access to the mountains, beaches and ocean are important to me. I love the fact that I can be in a forest in minutes from my downtown home, or in warmer months go for a bike ride on our amazing seawall that encircles the city.
I do love Montreal and Toronto. Montreal a little bit more than Toronto. Both cities offer a lot and I love visiting them.
Ottawa, I haven't been. An error I will correct one day.
Calgary and Edmonton to me are only so so. Calgary better than Edmonton, but both cities lack an energy. I could live in Montreal or Toronto, but not in Alberta. Dealing with the winters that the rest of Canada gets is also a factor. I would hate it.
The maritimes and Newfoundland/Labrador where left off your list. I hear great things about them, but again have yet to visit.
If you didn't have to worry about money, or jobs, or cost of living.
Vancouver or Montreal.
With those worries, I am happy with Calgary. Toronto would also work for me, but I would miss the mountains.
