People are talking about Melanie Joly being the next PM.
https://www.politico.com/news/2022/0...anada-00058748

Is she going to be a single mother?

I don't dislike her but this portrait of her is much more glowing than what one normally reads in the Canadian press.

Only her innermost blindly devoted fan club sees her as a possible future PM, but she's surprised people before.

She has a husband AFAIK.

No, that's not the case. There are a lot of people talking about Freeland taking on that role when Trudeau steps back. People are not talking about Joly being the next PM and it is Politico that is merely speculating about it. Half the country doesn't even know who Joly is if her name is mentioned. You need to take into consideration that Politico is an American publication always full of too much speculation and too much "an anonymous source said they said he said she said they said" and not enough factual commentary straight from the horse's mouth (namely Joly in this instance)..... see examples below ....... so don't take it to heart whatever Politico says.

"Joly offers little public hint of her leadership ambition."

"Someone long close to Joly, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told POLITICO that when Trudeau makes up his mind — whenever it is — Joly will then decide what to do with the opening."

Personally I think if/when Joly (with help from her husband Félix Marzell) manages to get herself pregnant through the IVF treatments she's getting she'll be gone like a bat out of hell. The moment she gets confirmation of pregnancy she will immediately abandon all interest and involvement in any political aspirations, drop it like it's a red hot potato, she'll run away from it to go put her feet up and rest for 9 months. Then be a SAH mom. And I do mean immediately with no more than a couple of days notice. Safely producing and then raising a child of her own is that much more important to her and she doesn't dare risk losing yet another fetus again.

.

Well, the article does state that her name is not the first that comes up in terms of a future Liberal leadership.

I haven't heard much if anything about Joly. I don't think she has much name recognition around here yet. I have heard people talking about Freeland.

Joly?? Nope, don't see that in the cards, but perhaps Freeland, with her western origin being a feather in her cap this cycle coming.

I think we've had enough of the perception the center of the universe is east of Thunder Bay and west of the Gaspe.

Yeah, eh? Something magical happens when you cross from Batchawana Bay into Sault Ste. Marie.

It feels like something "BIG" is up!

Joly? Don't know anything about her. If she's interested, she has a lot of work to do be more prominent on the national stage.

Next Liberal leadership race will be interesting.

Freeland seems the obvious choice to me. She is well known, respected, tough, and smart.

She'd eat Pierre Poilievre alive.

Freeland I've heard of... Never heard of Joly.

We have never had an elected female PM. And we have never had a POC PM.

I really wonder if we will see one in my lifetime.

BTW most people I know think that our current PM is an imbecile. And it has nothing to do with politics, since they do vote Liberal.

I kinda agree with the sentiment that he is as dumb as a bag of rocks and that almost anybody else would do a better job. I'm not saying he has caused harm, just that he doesn't seem all that bright and is more of a figurehead.

So yeah I welcome a change.
