I'm Canadian and engaged to an Algerian.
I went to Algeria in Oct 2010 to fill out the papers for our wedding and undergo the police interview etc.
Now I'm waiting to go back and get the civil ceremony out of the way lol.
My question is....should we decide to marry here in Canada instead of Algeria what is required?
I've looked on official sites and non official and none seem to say the same thing.
Would appreciate hearing from someone who actually knows how it works and if it's best to just go ahead and marry over there.
Ty

I can't tell you if it's better to marry in Canada or in another country; that decision is based on a large number of personal factors like timing, immigration goals, etc.

What I can tell you is that there is only one official source of information when it comes to immigration into Canada.

Welcome Page | Page d'accueil

Those are the folks who enforce the rules.

If your plan is to have your fiancee immigrate to Canada, then carefully go through all the CIC requirements for that to happen. Keep in mind there are a number of fees involved and, as with any government process, the wheels may grind more slowly than you'd like.

Jen,
You should marry in Canada and when the time comes give birth in Canada too. If you are a Canadian by descent - Born to a Canadian parent in another Country - your child could end up stateless. Check out Immigration Canada website.

I am non-Canadian, my fiancee is Canadian. We are getting married in Canada very soon. I have been here for almost 3 years but I leave every 6 months and return home for a few weeks as the law requires. Where do I go and what do I do after we are married, in order to stay here?

well that is abusing the medical system the medical care is not free but paid for by our taxes from income earned at work and other costs of living here.

there is alot to becoming Canadian Citizen it is a long journey and seeing if you can even apply check out the Canadian govronment website since that is where it all starts.

Well people are instructed to search to see if a thread has already been posted on a subject before starting a new thread, so that's why this one comes back to live repeatedly
