Couldn't agree more!! Using words like conquest and all that crap.. Like what is this 1759..

The topic started to get into chastising Anglo Canucks for their belittling of history. No one is celebrating any conquests just bringing it up to address the fact that national culture is not entirely beyond Anglo Canuck comprehension.

Babyblue - I don't really know how to take you.. On the one hand you say things like the best thing that ever happened to French Canadians Is that they were conquered by us, but than you go on and on about how 'uncool' Canada is like a werid High School student that nobody cares about.. Kinda like the unpopular kid in the crowd - the outcast, the people who nobody cares about or listens to, sort of irrelavent.. See where i'm getting a bit of dissonance from you? So the best thing that ever happened to French Canadians is that they were conquered by the weird, outcast high school student that nobody listens to or cares about - like am I missing something here man?

You sound like the type you'd see marching through Catholic neighbourhoods in Northern Ireland in parades celebrating the Battle of the Boyne on "The Twelfth"!

Our family had a cottage on Lake Simcoe in Ontario. We always spent Julys at the cottage.

Every year, on the 12th of July, at about noon, our cottage neighbour, Mr. Findlay (an Irish Protestant), would march down the road to the cottage of Mr. Delemere (an Irish Catholic, and another neighbour), bearing an armload of orange lilies. Mr. Findlay would present the flowers to Mr. Delemere. And then the two of them would proceed to drink beer and laugh the rest of the day away. Since Johnny Delemere (Mr. Delemere's son) was a buddy, I got to see this close up. At least, until Johnny and I rolled our eyes at the two who drank the afternoon away, and went fishing.

Good times. Thanks for the memories, AJ!
