Might as well join the Quebec independence party...
Michael Ignatieff claimed that Quebec will eventually secede regardless of what Canada does. Is he right or wrong? In all honesty I think he's right. He also made comments about the relationship of Quebec and the rest of Canada being fundamentally different than it used to be.
"Mr. Ignatieff told the BBC that the sense of national unity of his youth has given way to a sense that “we’re almost two separate countries.” The emotional bonds that once existed between French and English Canada are all but gone. “We don’t have anything to say to each other any more,” he said. “There’s a kind of contract of mutual indifference, which is very striking for someone of my generation.”
Ignatieff is 100% correct. This is a truth that is hard to look at for Canadians. Still it is a truth. No longer being a politician equals him saying truths that normally politicians must lie about.
I believe it is probable but most anglophones won't come near this question. Nothing can kill a national spirit. The best hope for one united Canada is to wait a century or more. Then hope the Québecois spirit has been eroded sufficiently to be no longer a factor.
Ignatieff is pretty irrelevant on the Federal political level these days he totally blew when he ran for PM under the Liberal party last time out so would take what he says with a grain of salt.. Heck last election back in 2011 Ignatieff lost his own seat in the Liberal Party's worst showing in its history

Of course it will happen. When Quebec has milked Canada for all it's worth it'll go it's own way. That's how it works. Why would Quebec stick around when Canada no longer serves it's needs? God help us the day that Canada enters some serious crisis like the crash of the housing market and meanwhile Quebec is blackballing the entire thing with its petty threats and demands.
When Quebec has milked Canada for all it's worth it'll go it's own way. That's how it works.
And how exactly has Quebec "milked Canada for all it's worth"? Quebec receives less transfer payments per capita than many other provinces. And I don't see any example of Quebec receiving more than the others for any program. We often read this kind of uninformed statements, but it's never backed up by any substiantial facts...

If anything Canada has given Québec a cold shoulder.
