I have two recommendations, Old Moldy.

1. Jesus of Montreal (1989) written and directed by Denys Arcand. There are a few screamingly funny scenes in it.

2. Mon Oncle Antoine (1971) directed by Claude Jutra. Oh. My. God. It will turn you inside out and leave you for dead.

Okay, I just now saw your historical drama comment. Neither of my recommendations are that. But watch them anyway!

NOT a Quebecois film, preciscely, but Black Robe is about the early, early intersection of French missionaries, native tribes, and les voyageurs.

A classic tale from the Quebec of old. A famous novel, then a 1960s TV series, and this more recent movie. The recent movie is beautifully shot, the actors very good and the music is great. They just announced they will be resurrecting the TV series as well.
