What exactly is the legal status of prostitution in Canada? This recently came up in a conversation and I am bit confused over this. It is illegal to be a prostitute as long as you don't do it in Public? Street prostitution is illegal but Escorts are legal?
Do you think prostitution should be completely legal like it is in Holland and some other European countries?

One argument against it is that it leads to forced/child prostitution, which I think is stupid. There is forced/child labour as well, so should we ban working?
Prostitution is a profession. It requires certain skills and experience, just like other professions. It should be regulated and taxed. I don't understand what is the fundamental difference between sexual service and other services such as consulting or legal. Why do people have to be such prudes?

I agree with this. Legalizing it will also cut down on the exploitation and abuse factor.
Prostitution is legal. Solicitation is illegal. Basically it's legal to sell sex, but it's illegal to buy it.

Imagine a law says it is ok to sell beef, but to buy it is illegal. The market needs more sellers, buyers and prices. How do you expect people to find beef buyers?
Off the street doesn't necessarily mean underground. I'm assuming the reason I see fewer prostitutes than before is because of the internet?
The VPD have a good policy regarding the sex trade. In the past when there seemed more prostitutes on the streets downtown and in the West End, I remember police chatting with some of them, even laughing.
So like marijuana, its a " pick your battles " kind of enforcement.

Banning prostitution is discrimination, or even unconstitutional. I don't ever see myself as a customer but who are we to say others shouldn't have the option?
I am fully in favour of Amsterdam style red light district. For the large cities, I think the financial district would serve perfectly as the red light district at night, because
1) the CBD is always a ghost town outside 9-5 M-F, while sex business usually takes place at night or weekend.
2) I think the bankers, lawyers and managers would also be ideal customers too. They have the money and probably need the pleasure after 15 hours of work.
3) Companies should seriously rent out their some of their office space off office hours. It sits there idol any more.

That practically says, go underground.
It allows prostitutes to seek authorities for protections from criminal activities and violence against them with out fear of prosecution themselves. It also reduces corruption at the law enforcement level leveraging Sexual favors.
I personally would support this as an interim or compromise here in the US

I just don't see the point of criminalize buying sex. What's the point? Some people's livelihood depends on it.

The red light district in Amsterdam didn't solve all the issues with street prostitution in Amsterdam. There are always going to be the ones that don't want to be part of the system.
I'm not sure what's the situation is now, but when I was last there, prostitutes were illegally working behind the Centraal Station.
I agree it should be legal, at least there is some sort of control then and the workers are safer.
Where to put a RLD in Vancouver would be a hotly debated subject. We joke about a barge in the harbour.
