Red Toryism derives largely from a classical conservative tradition that maintained the unequal division of wealth and political privilege among social classes can be justified if members of the privileged class practiced noblesse oblige and contributed to the common good. Red Tories supported traditional institutions such as religion and the monarchy, and maintenance of the social order. Later, this position was manifested in their support for some aspects of the welfare state. This belief in a common good is at the root of Red Toryism.

No, not really a Red Tory but I can get along with them. Republicans in the US and Reforms in Canada, not so much. Generally I don't get along with people who have such a weak grasp on reality.

I wished I still had a political science book I had read. From what I remember a tory is a type of conservative not just another name for a conservative. The example it gave was George Bush was a tory, George W Bush was not but a neoconservative and it described the difference. Harper would not fit under the tory banner.

I am an Albertan who has voted Liberal for the last 5 elections but a Red Tory for decades before Martin. Harper, Manning and Day were poor matches for me.

One problem; Obama didn't run against Bush in 2008. Get your facts in your own country straight.
