Its called roaming charges, your provider can set you up with a temporary or permanent travel package that lessens the bill but failure to take on that adjustment to your plan can make for an eye opening bill in the near future.
Even with that travel package things can go wrong as in this guys story= http://jeffreifman.com/2014/06/04/ye...in-one-minute/
Yikes! That's alarming. I will definitely contact my carrier before I go next year to make sure that doesn't happen to me! Thanks for the info and Happy Holidays!
I got that surprise in the early 90's while touring the U.S. with two Bell Mobility phones. Every tower I passed in the states with the phones turned on was being interrogated by the phones and racking up another roaming charge. My bill came to $680 for one month.
Bell, of course being Ma Bell was less than sympathetic and I couldn't waiot for the contract on those phones to expire so I could give Bell the middle finger salute. I felt better; they didn't notice or care.
