It sure is a shame. The strike killed us, but the Expos seemed to start to rebound in 1996. You're right, Selig and Brochu did a fine job in killing the fanbase up there. The final component in the Axis of Evil was Loria. Okay, he did try to help at first, but sold the team and fans out at his first chance. IMO, those 3 are the true Evil Empire, not the Yankees. BTW, I remember a lot of Yankee fans did sign an online petition to save the Expos from contraction and expressed their support.

Not even 5 months after Loria took control of the team, he got into
an incident on a flight from Montreal about his cell phone. Enraged,
he yellled on a smaller plane so everyone heard it: "This is why
everyone wants to *&$#! leave Canada!".
That was only one of many "badwill" incidents.

Yes, you can visit it. It is mostly used for trade shows, concerts, and big sporting events. If the Montreal Alouettes CFL club which has another stadium, has a big game, they play at Olympic Stadium. Montreal's soccer team, L'Impact, has also used it for a "big" game. The CFL championship game, the Grey Cup, is held there every five years or so when it is Montreal's turn to host. Games featuring foreign soccer teams, when they are held in Montreal, are also often played there.

I live in Quebec, and was a big Expos fan as a kid. MLB is now very much off the radar in Quebec, and is no longer mainstream as it once was. Today it is mostly a small "niche" sport, like the NBA is. The NFL is more popular than MLB in Quebec, though the NFL is not completely mainstream here either.

I don't know anyone who has gone to the Nationals and hardly anyone who follows the Blue Jays even.

The remaining small group of baseball fans in Quebec probably follow a variety of teams, for a variety of reasons. Some may follow the Jays out of "Canadian loyalty", some may follow the Red Sox because of their interesting history and geographic proximity, or another random team because a player from Quebec plays on it (Yankees with Russell Martin, the Dodgers previously because of Russell Martin and Éric Gagné...).
