I can't recall getting the chance to go to any live stand up comedy shows previously and put that on my to do list for 2016. I just got tickets to see one of my fav Canadian comedians, Russell Peters at Massey Hall in Toronto this month (still tickets left if anyone is interested ).
This made me remember we have a lot of really funny people in Canada rocking the comedy scene in and outside of Canada.
Who are you favourite Canadian comedians. Feel free to give an example of what you think their best acts/ skits were and/ or roles or lines they are most memorable for.
Up 2nd for me is a good old Scarborough guy named Mike Myers:
I saw Russell Peters live at Massey Hall back in the early 2000s. Had never heard of him before that, but he sure had the place laughing! Since then, I've heard of him a lot.
I like standup comedy. I used to go to Amateur Open Mic Night at Yuk Yuk's in the 1970s, and while there were a few flops, there were plenty who were actually funny. You should look for standup events--there are a few comedy clubs in Toronto, and they can provide a great evening's entertainment, even if the comedians aren't big stars (yet). This is one guy I remember seeing in Toronto a few years ago:
I've seen Wayne Brady, Tim Allen, Howie Mandel, and Greg Proops, among others, do standup live; but I'll never forget the night Toronto local Rick Jones had me laughing out loud after delivering the single word, "Chardonnay?"
Enjoy Russell Peters--I know you will--but do yourself a favour: check out the comedy clubs, even if they don't have big-name headliners. You'll have a good time!

Thanks for the info. I watched the clip you posted while on the subway and could not help laughing out loud despite the looks from a few of the people sitting next to me. I have been to second city once, but to see Tony and Tina wedding when it was playing and that was more like dinner theatre, but still fun. I have watched these types of shows on tv, but never in person. Similar to when going to watch the shows at Seaworld I have realized unless you want to run the risk of being splashed or in this case possibly the target of the comics jokes you should avoid sitting near the stage. I happily selected seats very far away from the stage .
As pointed out, no; I was just making the point that I've seen a wide range of comedians, from the big stars like Allen to the amateurs on open mic night. But I disagree with Badfish that Allen is not funny--his standup stuff, as opposed to his acting in movies or TV shows, is hilarious!
Back to Canadian comics--we cannot forget Jim Carrey. I remember years ago, when he was one of the opening acts to a headliner, who was so unremarkable that I have forgotten who it was. But I never forgot Carrey at that show, and I've enjoyed watching him ever since.
