What else could one expect? Steyn is a backwards thinking bigot and racist, a brown-noser to ultra conservative homophobic white American isolationist ideologies and afraid of his own shadow if it has the slightest hint of darker shading to it. So no surprise there that he was unable to conform to most Canadians' socially progressive views.
I was not referring to one particular race, I was referring to EVERYONE, but of course you..........oh, never mind. You have a nice weekend also.
For what's its worth. The only time I had a cop put his hand over his gun was in the US. I had been pulled over in a small Oregon town for apparently speeding. The speed dropped suddenly on the towns border and I missed it.
My driver's license etc was in my trunk. So as I got out of the car ( I had told him that the license was in the trunk )he put his hand over his gun while I got my license.

Amazingly though, I didn't get a ticket
The very first time that "trooper with his hand on his gun" happened to me was back in 1968. I can still see him approaching cautiously in my side mirror with his hand on his holster ready for whatever. To say I was a tad concerned would be the understatement of the year. My thoughts were "WTF is up with this dude?" All went normal and no ticket but a caution for being 6mph over the posted limit. Canada plates on the car says all that needs saying about that occasion.
It's a far different world down there and with firearms so popular I can readily see why LEO's aren't able to assume the jocular mood a lot of cops in Canada default to when trying to ease tension during a stop.
I hope that doesn't change for us but it very likely will over time.
