Christ on a bike... I created a topic about Rosedale in the Toronto Section.. Which nobody will post in now lol... Anyway created to discuss in a more appropriate spot..
So many people were traumatized by the fire in Fort McMurray. Brian Jean, the leader of the Wildrose party, lost everything. His son died a year ago, and all physical memories of him were in the house that Brian Jean occupied for 5 decades. Physically, people suffered the effects of smoke inhalation. Some were psychologically traumatized by fear after being surrounded by out of control wild fires.
The loss is unbelievable in terms of so many people having to rebuild their lives from nothing but the clothing they were wearing when they were given 20 minutes to evacuate.
Does it do anyone any good that we talk about it here? If you care that much go help.
Nope.
I don't intend to donate. There are far poorer people in the world that are worth help.
Many people in Fort McMurray first lost their jobs and were facing losing their homes to the bank, now they've lost not only their homes, but their memories and possessions to fire.

I don't understand your sense of entitlement about what subjects people are allowed to discuss. You are not a Moderator. If you aren't interested in the subject of a thread, don't read it.
There haven't been a whole lot of updates in the last few hours.
You had a lot of updates yesterday afternoon as the fire rapidly grew and started to close in on town and residents were evacuating. Then the fire calmed down a little overnight and a few reporters seem to have gone into town to assess the damage.
However, it seems like the fires mostly grow in pulses? Overwhelming firefighters with the heat and wind of the afternoons, and then calming down somewhat and possibly getting pushed back overnight. Well then you might expect another big push from the fires in the last couple hours, and for the next couple hours, but so far nothing on the news about what that is looking like.
The situation yesterday seems to have been a few neighbourhoods at the south end of town experiencing significant damage (majority of homes destroyed), including Abasand Heights, Beacon Hill and Waterways. The remaining 90% or so of the city seemed to be largely untouched, but at very high risk with the fires burning right at the edges of those until then untouched areas. Winds seem to be pushing the fire right towards those areas, so it would be difficult to hold them back.
Downtown, the large suburban area north of the Athabasca River, and the neighbourhood of Gregoire south of Downtown, as well as the adjacent MacKenzie Industrial Park and airport are the main areas that were largely untouched yesterday, with the exception of a few homes lost at the edge of the northern suburbs.
However, the airport webcam seems to be showing that the fires have gotten worse, or at least gotten closer to the airport. I'm not sure if the firefighters were able to keep the fire out of the neighbourhoods so that the fire would only start encircling the city, rather than going through it, but it seems like the fire has spread to the forests west, northwest and north and maybe also northeaest of the airport. That means a high likelihood it has passed through the small communities of Draper and Saprae Creek. I'd be worried about Gregoire too, if the fire hasn't hit it, than it has probably surrounded it on 3 sides.
so based on twitter updates, looks like the fire has been moving in 3-4 directions?
1) along the Clearwater River (the big river east of Waterways neighbourhood) towards the airport
2) along Airport Road towards the airport
3) north of Timberlea towards Highway 63
4) south of Thickwood Heights towards the Thickwood Heights
Seems like Draper and Saprae Creek are at high risk of being destroyed if they haven't been already... The airport is at risk too.
The fires around Airport Road are probably threatening Gregoire and the small subdivision south of Airport Road, but seems like the fires have been held back from those 2 neighbourhoods for now. Seems like the MacKenzie industrial park may have experienced damage though.
The fires around Thickwood Heights and Timberlea on the north side of the Athabasca River seem to have taken out a few dozen homes and an under-construction school at the edges of those neighbourhoods but otherwise those areas are mostly intact.
I wish the fire wiped out Rosedale Toronto instead of Fort Murray.
NO NO, CLIFTON HILL AND THE ENTIRE TOURIST AREA OF NIAGARA FALLS!!!!!!!!!! Then maybe that way we could get some manufacturing and industrial jobs back in this dump hellhole of a city for reconstruction instead of all just hotel, restaurant and casino bull**** that it is now. If the tourist area burned maybe it would even switch this city from a tourism city to something better.
