Well, I live in Austin, TX and Mexico City is closer to me than Washington DC or even Los Angeles, so using your logic I'd be better off just driving to points of interest in Mexico than say driving to NYC, which is even further...
I have gone down into Mexico but the border is a PIA and also I like to see my home country more.
There are fewer practical challenges for Canadians in the US compared to Americans in Mexico.
At a minimum, Manitobans seem to have all done the trip to the west coast by car. At least I can't think of anyone who hasn't. A lot of people I know take regular trips to Banff for skiing.

I'd say that most people in Quebec and Ontario have been to each other's provinces.
A lot of people in Ontario and Quebec have been to the Maritimes. Though a lot fewer have been to Newfoundland.
Just started watching this series on CBC about people's lives in the north. I am really glad that they are making series like this to educate people about the north and ways to make it better for all the residents.
What about the other way? Seems many from the Maritimes have traveled extensively through the other provinces, 'eh'?
Yes, there would be more who've been the other way. Due to high levels of economic migration to parts of Canada west of the Maritimes. And follow-up travel like Maritimers visiting family and relatives now living in provinces to the west.
