Do you think Canada/Canadians would like such a plan?
No. We've talked about it before on this forum, but there's this fallacy out there that Americans imagine Canada as a land of American Democrats. This is not really the reality, there are big differences (fundamentally different laws and institutions for one) that would likely make this very difficult. Maybe an EU type close cooperation and international integration if you actually did manage to separate. It's entirely dependent on why and how such a thing happened. We stayed out of your last civil war as much as we could manage to and it served us well, we'd probably try to do the same if you had another internal schism.

I understand your schadenfreude, and the legal structure issues.
I just was more curious about if Canadians would be interested in having California and New York, etc. Not a bad addition. Or would there be a "screw L.A., we're cold and we like it!" nationalism thing.

There's no schadenfreude, I feel bad that you guys have such acrimonious divisions and take zero joy in it. If those places were to join Canada, however, we wouldn't be "getting" them, they wouldn't be our slaves, they'd be in political union with us. Whose laws would take precedence? Whose views would supersede the other? Would we end up in a war with, or be unable to trade with, the red states? That wouldn't be in our interests. Would we have to give up bilingualism? I'd love the right to freedom of movement, but not at any cost.
I can see the advantages - California would finally have water, and Canada would finally have a pipeline route. Would US West coast residents be okay with a pipeline in exchange for water?

California alone, has more people than all of Canada, add in the other states on that map and you would have a new country whose majority population is Americans, with American ideas and ways of doing things. Canadians would feel that their Canadian way of doing things would be lost.
There is no " screw LA " because of weather...that's just odd.
