Hi,
I plan to visit Halifax in August. I will be staying form five to seven days. This will be my first time there so any information on hotels, restaurants, things to do, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The Buskers will be around, I believe from the 8-15th or somewhere right around there. Halifax International Busker Festival 2007 (broken link)
For general ideas on stuff to do, pick up a Frommer's or Fodors guide for the area, and get the free Nova Scotia Doers & Dreamers Guide (available online). For hotels, I like the Marriott Residence Inn, across the street from my favorite pub, Maxwell Plum. I hear the Delta and Westin are nice too. The Marriott at the casino is also nice, but the rooms are small.
You can't go wrong with drinks and live music at O'Carrolls, and for mid-price range - dinner at McKelvies or Chives has never disappointed. Take a sunset sail in Halifax Harbour and definitely get out to Peggy's Cove. Don't eat at Murphy's (crappy tourist food). Make sure you try Cow's Ice Cream, their stand is over by the Marriott Harbourfront and Lower Deck.
Head over to Spring Garden Rd and check out the Public Gardens. Also check out the Citadel, nice views from up there, and make sure you get there in time for the changing of the guard.

Halifax has a very rich history. My grandparents were there during world war 2 as sailors. I don't know if they made Kings college into a museum, as my grandma hasn't gone there in so long. But i am sure you will enjoy spending time there.

My wife and I are from Texas. We visited Halifax on our honeymoon in July of 2007. I was very surprised how far away the airport is from the city. We only spent 3 days in Halifax, but we had an opportunity to visit the Citadel and the public garden. There are many restaurants on Spring Garden Road and they all looked very inviting. We also checked out pier 21. We took a 40 minute drive to peggy's cove to visit the infamous lighthouse. The weather there in the summer is incredible. After we were done with Halifax, we took a 3 hour drive to Charlottetown on our rental car. We attended the Anne of the Green Gable musical (my wife's idea). But I must admit, it was very well put together and I was impressed. Both Halifax and Charlottetown are beautiful cities. We both love to walk, and we did a lot of that along the downtown blocks and feel very safe.

We stayed at the Waverly Inn in Halifax - centrally located and fairly reasonably priced. Lovely inn!
Check out tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews - I never book a hotel without checking there first!

haha just out of curiosity why would you think they turned Kings into a museum? I can assure you it is still there and succesfully churning out hippies

Just because it was part of WW2 history. It was converted for the Navy at the time.
