This was a really wrong thing to do to the participants and to BC.

sent 10 people to BC to travel around without any access to phones, airplanes, or car rentals.
Aawwww. I looked at some of those very short video clips on there and they weren't helpful. Sending them to BC ...... I think that was a rather spiteful thing for the producers of the show to do to those poor people. And it makes BC look like a bad place for regular tourists to visit.
BBC needs to do their homework more thoroughly and make sure they aren't causing aggravation and legal problems and dangerous risks for everyone involved.
I don't understand what's the point of producing those kinds of shows that set such extreme challenges for their participants. And furthermore without consideration of legalities or of the invasion of privacy of the residents of the native village of Tlell on Haida Gwaii. To tell the participants to go to a place like Tlell with no knowledge and in complete violation of the Haida Gwaii Pledge that all visitors to anywhere on the islands must make to Haida Gwaii and donate to.
That's all just so wrong in so many ways. I don't think any of it is funny or entertaining.

Since reality shows are fake to begin with, I'd take a lot of it with a grain of salt.
I wonder if they do notify the places they send these people to. My guess is yes, and mostly because behind the scenes they probably have a contingency plans and travel with more people than you see on screen.
That said, for the sake of some reality, the contestants may not know much about BC.
I'm pretty sure that film crews must have local permits to film anywhere they go. They will bring in masses of people, catering vans, medical support, fancy communication. It won't be two strangers and one handheld camera trying to find their way through uncharted territory.
BC will have some sort of film board that tries to encourage films. They will be listed somewhere in the film credits.

Not everywhere apparently, just certain places. I also think it depends on what kind of filming. This type of show isn't setting up filming sites, just a camera running around mostly. That said, I can't see BBC filming here without some sort of authorization.

I just skipped through the first episode. It actually makes BC look good, lack of ground transport aside. However the beginning makes it clear that this will be challenging since Canada is massive with great distances.
I'll give an more informed opinion once I watch it.

Thanks Nat. If you find out in advance when and how it will be presented I'd appreciate if you could update on this thread. If it's shown on regular cablevision on TV or online (like youtube?) then I can watch it to see what it's like.

I watch it directly from the BBC iplayer. I have a VPN that gives me access to them.
There are some links on YouTube, but they don't work. They just go black.
Give it some time for YouTube. The other 2 series are there and seem to work fine.
Perhaps after series 3 ends, it will show up on YouTube.
