A neighbour taps some maple trees and gives us syrup. I don't particularly like maple syrup but she is very proud of hers so....

It's not cheap store, so I can probably get it cheaper if I tried. Occasionally it goes on sale for about $18 per litre.

Remember, it has to travel across the country to get here in Vancouver, so that adds to the cost.

I didn't even know there was a 'cheap' maple syrup. I buy stuff in a tin from Walmart called 'Pure' Maple Syrup from Quebec and it seems pretty good to me. 540 Ml is 7.99 in Toronto.

Always read the label

I just had a flashback. When I was a kid my mother didn't like how we kids would get bread and dip it into the maple syrup, using it all up as snacks.

So she started using this for us....as sneaky as putting powdered milk into a real milk carton!

I don't either, actually. But when I (infrequently) make steel-cut oats, maple syrup *must* be drizzled on top. Otherwise I'll gag. And for someone who doesn't like the taste of maple, I've gotta say... it's a delicious combination.

Any pancake restaurant in Canada or the US serve real maple syrup? I think IHOP only has maple-flavored corn syrup.

Haha yeah there are definitely knock offs out there and imitations but I think my maple syrup is like a medium grade. I read more about it and it is at least 'real' maple syrup. It is from Quebec so I think i'm good
