That said i do think immigration between the two countries should be a heck of a lot easier than it is rigtht now..
You know, I'm American, and I fully agree with you on these things. I've lived in many places throughout the USA, and I find that Minnesota has almost none of the things on your list (except the dysfunctional health care system). Most of those things are common in the Southern and Western states (Texas, Alabama, Arizona, etc.), and not the Upper Midwest or Northeast. Minnesota in particular has a very Canadian outlook, which makes sense, seeing as it's right on the border. Too bad Minnesota can't join Canada.

I've thought about that, but I already have a bachelor's degree. I'm not sure if I could apply to do my master's in Canada.

You most certainly can! Plenty of folks come to McGill or U of Toronto for their PhDs and master's degrees from the states. I'm up here for a post-grad program, though not at either of the mentioned schools. It's only for a year, however.

Also, a lot of schools here don't require the GREs like they do in the US, which shocked me. Here I was studying words with 18-or-so letters, for aught! Lol -- just kidding. But that's somethin' to think about.

Thanks for the info. I'm a small-town guy, so I wouldn't be interested in McGill (Montreal) or U of Toronto. In Canada, I'm most interested in Brandon University in Manitoba, because it's in a small Prairie city and has a Master's of Rural Development program. Is it realistically possible to get permanent Canadian residency after graduation? I know what Immigration Canada says, but is it really possible? I don't see much point of studying in Canada if I would just get shipped back to the good ol' USA after graduating. Plus, I can do the same program here at MSU in Mankato and not move at all (it's LITERALLY right across the street from me).

KazooPilot, my nephew is pursuing his undergraduate degree at a school in Toronto. He's found out that at the end of his last semester he can get a one-year extension to remain in Canada. If he's gainfully employed when the year expires, he's been told he can get a three-year extension, followed by another if he's still employed. At that point he will have been living in Canada for ten years, and I doubt he'd be made to leave at that point.........

Hope this helps.
