A Philly brick (250 grams) is 2.98 at Superstore. https://www.realcanadiansuperstore.c...d=cream-cheese

What do you mean by a "large" cream cheese, Acajack? Are you talking bricks like Philly or something else?

I typically buy them in containers, like this:

There is also a smaller container size, that's just over half the size of that one.

When I lived in Connecticut and Massachusetts, I could always find a decent brand of cream cheese for $1.00. When I moved back to Montreal -- having forgotten the "dairy raping" that we get here -- I asked the guy who was filling the shelves if it was an error. We chatted, he told me "non, that's the prix," I told him that I'd just moved back and was used to $1.00 cream cheese, he laughed and said "welcome home." Indeed.

I just texted a friend in California -- just to make sure that things hadn't drastically changed -- and she got a block of Philly on Monday for $1.00. Sigh... Now I'm craving cream cheese.
Next time I'm in Calfornia, I'm going to shop where your friend does! I tend to shop at Albertson's when there.

I checked Albertson's, a well known chain in the western US, not a fancy store and the famous Philadelphia isn't cheaper, but Lucerne is, at 2 USD for an US 8 oz bar. Philadelphia is a whopping $4.09 USD for an 8 oz bar.

The cheapest I could find online in Vancouver was at Superstore, at $2.48 for 227 gram ( 8 US oz ) for the no-name brand. No idea what it would be on sale.

The sales in the US sound better though and maybe have more options"

US dairy though is cheaper, no argument, since they are heavily subsidized by the US taxpayer.

EDIT: and Acajack as well.

Dawn, you could always make your own. Not sure if it's really cheaper though.

$1.48 or $1.98 for Philly here in Houston

Don't search the produce unless you want to cry a lot.

I had a look at them and factoring in the exchange rate they're not really out of whack with what I pay here.

Except for certain specific things, I've never found food to be that much of a bargain in the U.S. (And certainly restaurant food very rarely is.)

Hahaha! I do and I have.

It was my first OMG moment when I moved back in 2013.
