There hasn't been much yet for the city's 50th anniversary but I am hoping something interesting comes up. I suggested to my ward city councillor that we should have some items made with the city's tartan (came about with the city's 25th anniversary)

Yep, that's what I immediately thought. In Canada I'm digging Newfoundland's flag, the aesthetic seems to have Celtic and Viking traits.
and yes I can imagine, even with a stencil getting the outline of the sunshine on BC's flag could be quite the challenge, lol.
Maryland's flag looks like it belongs on a race track somewhere.
I love New Mexico's flag, bright yellow with the Zia sun and indigenous roots. It's a standout.
You have to look to the origin of Maryland. During the time after Henry VIII's reign, and after the Pope wouldn't grant him his 7th. divorce, the King made the Catholic Church illegal and converted it into the Church of England (today's Anglican Church). Some British Catholics refused to let go of their religion. In time, they were exiled to America under the leadership of Lord Calvert, an English Catholic, the second Lord Baltimore. They established a colony that was at the time totally Catholic, but still loyal to the British Crown. Their colonial flag, which remains as their state flag today, reflects their Catholic roots and is derived from the Calvert family crest.
Everytime some one says something positive about Quebec the usual posters come out to shoot them down.
