Hi, we're live in Edmonton and are planning to move to Southern Ontario in the summer for several reasons (AB housing prices impossible, would like to raise our children among others who're a little more to the left than AB, want to live in an area where activities/other cities are within reasonable commute). Depending on where we can get jobs (healthcare and education respectively), we're considering either Ottawa (1st choice), London or Windsor. We've researched the cost of housing in all three cities and could manage any of them without too much trouble (although we recognize Ottawa is more expensive). In terms of quality of life, cost of living, commutes, political disposition, quality of public education, recreational opportunities, economic stability - how do the three cities compare?
Ottawa has the better commute, both for cars and buses. London is getting bad for both. Ottawa is also growing and so is Windsor, while London is a bit stagnant. Windsor tends to vote NDP and is pro-labour, whereas Ottawa is more of a mix of people from all over the spectrum with a favour towards pro-bureaucrat liberal.
Windsor is going down the toilet (and looks rundown). Between Ottawa and London, I'd choose Ottawa for economic prospects, but the weather is better in London.
I will tell you from my findings. Windsor is going through some pretty hard times right now. This does make realestate cheap though. If you are willing to roll the dice a little it could pay off. I have been raised around London. I like it. There is always alot to do hear. The inner city drive is not great. I spend to much time sitting at traffic lights. However, that being said. I love it hear. Do you insist on being in a city. If you keep an open mind look up Ridgetown Ontario. National Geographic calls us "The Friendliest town in Ontario" It is an awesome place to live. I moved hear from London and I love it. Some things to look at hear are Rondeau Park, Guelph University Ridgetown Campus, We have a great arts scene, WONDERFUL realestate prices. We are in the Banana belt of Canada. I shovelled snow once last year. There is so much to do hear, so much history. I will live the rest of my life enjoying the treelined streets . It doesn't cost anything to check it out. We have everything here. 3600 people if you don't count all the schools. Every season is filled with something to do .
Hi, I've lived in Windsor and London over the past 20 years.
Windsor has the best summers but the economy is bad. Lost my house there...(imagine a 3 bedroom with central air, fenced yard 2baths etc.. not selling for $79,000. Crappy jobs, but they're still plugging away). London is clean, progressing and family friendly. I grew up in London then moved to various other cities in SW Ontario. If you like traffic, move to London or Ottawa. For rest and relaxation, move to Port Stanley, On. 40 mins from London but you get to sit on the beach everyday.

I live in Windsor and it really, REALLY sucks. The only good part about Windsor is our nightlife, if you're looking to have a good time on a Friday or Saturday night then downtown is nice, lots of bars, restaurants, and (of course), the Casino.
Other than that it's pathetic. Apparently we're one of Canada's most polluted cities, it rains here A LOT, our tallest buildings include phone-booths. There is literally nothing to do, if you like getting drunk then it's your place, but not necessarily the best place to live.
I, personally, would love to live in Vancouver, London, Edmonton, or somewhere in the states when I'm older...and Windsor just motivates me to get the hell out of here ASAP.
If you have a good job in Windsor it is the best city to live in as far as personal finances are concerned. Some of the best well built homes in Canada at a fraction of the cost of other cities. Great service in stores, restaurants. Longest summer in Canada. Cross border shopping significantly reduces personal expenses. Windsor combines big city living and pace of life with a small town charm in my opinion. Windsor will make a comeback when Detroit gets its act together.
