You are getting a bit of what it's like being a Canadian visiting the US. The odd statements and questions. I'm surprised you haven't been asked if we have roads

Invisible. LOL. I have a friend who says " the less they know about us, the better ".
Thank you. I know it won't be forever. It is just painful because we are old and met so late in life, plus I brought my 15-year-old cat up there after the other cat died so he wouldn't ever be alone, and now I don't know if I will ever see him again. It's not like we are in our 20s and have all the time in the world. Time is precious at this age.

Lol @do you have roads. I haven't heard that one yet.

That is part of what I would like to see. The USA is not all the same about COVID, just as it isn't all the same politically, religiously, or socially. We had the earliest, terrible wave here in the NY/NJ metro area in April, but because of measures taken, NJ has very low numbers now. There has been a slight increase with school back in session that everyone is watching carefully.

Meanwhile, places like Arizona and Florida and Texas that said, "oh, it's them, not us" and refused to take preventative measures are getting whacked. Fortunately for them, they will benefit from the lessons learned by the medical communities here and may be able to keep their death rates lower.

I hope that if Canada does choose to put in place a gradual and careful reopening plan that they take that type of information into consideration.

No one who watched that has any idea what either of them intend to do if elected.
The stupidest thing is that neither of them seem to realize that the world is watching.

If the country will be led by crazy old men regardless of election outcome, the world will move forward around them - bypassing their mess, negotiate without the USA.

BBC is asking : what's the point in watching the next two debates, what are we going to hear? No one wants more of that.

The moderator needs a kill switch to silence the other opponent for 2 minutes, and to assign silence penalties when they interrupt each other mid-sentence.

Democrats will claim that Biden won, Republicans will claim that Trump won, the world will declare that both lost.
My take-away was: there's going to be a surge in chiro visits this AM in the U.S.. I swear I felt the earth stagger when everyone shook their heads at the same time down there.

Those Americans working and interacting with others are going to be expressing their frustration in droves around the water cooler.

Knowing that a significant number of Americans would have tuned in to watch, the President should have refrained from lying about the professed rampant fraud in voting. Aside from the point that stating he knows there's fraud but at the same time claiming his 2016 win was legitimate already putting him on his back foot. He should be aware every organization out there has studied the issue to it's shoe soles and found no proof of organized fraud. Lying to his stupid minions at a rally is light years less critical than lying with so many normal people watching him was just stupid.

The arrogance of his deliberately lackluster pandemic response should have been enough for any thinking person.

Joe Biden, however, resting on his laurels of the supercilious grin, shoulder shrugs and looking down at his shoes does nothing to convince anyone this guy has his act together and can make the tough choices going forward. His platform has nothing new in it but the same old, same old "tax the rich", "affordable healthcare for all", "stamp out racism". One thing to take the higher road but quite another to just perform the same sniping your protagonist does thinking that's showing you've got some backbone after all, while not having elocuted anything of substance.

Americans are left with choosing someone who will continue on his path of willful ignorance of convention, ignorance of proven intelligence, ignorance of science, ignoring advice from wiser people and propensity to orchestrate a "look over there" deflection every five minutes. OR choosing someone who "might" actually develop a set of targets, take some hitherto untried risk, surround himself with a cadre of intelligent, morally and ethically balanced advisors and make appeals of the people they can get on board with. "Might" being the operative word here.

At the end of the day they have to choose between one whose flaws are there for all to see and another one who's been a go along to get along political wallflower for the greater part of his career.

Having said all of the above; does anyone here think our political theater ISN'T following the same script?

The road comment was kind of an inside joke.

In 1986 a friend worked on an Expo '86 800 number information line, where potential visitors could call with questions about the upcoming World's Fair in Vancouver. One caller from the US wanted to know if the fair was accessible by road.

There was no actual debate. High school debating teams have higher standards.

The moderator was too slow to control the mess going on, which IMO was totally instigated by Trump. Trump was out of control. At least Biden tried to hold it together, but did lose it by telling him to shut up. Maybe not the best tactic, but it was satisfying for a moment

The object of political debates is a chance for candidates to clarify and showcase how their polices are better than their opponents. I didn't see any of that. Trump's plan I believe was to bluster loud enough that no actual policy could be seriously debated.

Biden did miss one chance though. Trump was going on how Biden wanted SOCIALIST healthcare. Trump then went on to brag that he and he alone had gone after big Pharma for lower drug prices, but then said his plan was to buy cheaper drugs from other countries. Biden should have responded that going around big Pharma's drugs prices in the US isn't taking big Pharma on, and that it's ironic that Trumps plan on buying drugs cheaper is only possible because these countries have universal healthcare. The very thing Trump is accusing Biden of wanting.

You can't make this stuff up!

!
Yeah honestly I don't think the moderator could have made much of a difference. To be loud and rude is just trumps style. The sad thing about that is, some people view that as a good quality. Bringing Bidens sons past drug problem into the conversation was as trashy as you could get.

Looks like only way to control some mess like this is lock each in their own sound proof room and only turn mike on for two minutes to respond. Otherwise they can rant and rave for their own benefit as much as they want. Only they will hear it. This is like kindergartners screaming at each other. And one of those is supposed to be our actual president. Didnt look very presidential. Looked like a moronic fool. Pity the fool.....

The word cluster**** came to mind when I was watching the debate. In a way Trump’s behavior didn’t surprise me - one of his two coaches for the debate was Rudy Giuliani.

This was the first time I heard Biden speak. I learned little about his platform and the interruptions didn’t help.

After the debate, I watched CNN for a bit. They did an short interview with Kamala Harris. I had never her speak before either. I was immediately struck by how articulate she was in contrast to Trump and Biden. I would have loved to have seen her debate Trump. I think she would have been a lot more effective in dealing with the interruptions.

The vicepresidential debates could easily be the highest-rated VP debates ever. I don´t want to jinx it, but Pence doesn´t strike me as someone who will badger and talk over his opponent. Sure, he´ll lie through his teeth and spew the same objectionable scum rhetoric that we heard last night, but I´m quite sure that Democratic strategists will seize the moment and rely on Kamala Harris to actually address the real issues and deliver key policy points during her debate-- stay tuned.

Biden isn´t the most articulate person, I know, but had he faced off against an opponent with any shred of decency and respect, he would have impressed more people than he did. That was the idea though...don´t let him talk, don´t let him get into a groove, leave the people demoralized and without a real choice. Low turnout is one of the only weapons they have left.

Even if we can hopefully close this hideous chapter of our history, I wonder how much of the damage already done is irreversible...time will tell. It particularly infuriates me how Mexico, Canada and Western Europe have been treated the past 4 years.
