Hi. We are interested in buying property in this area.

We are american, but the hubby has dual canadian citizenship.

I have looked at numerous properties and websites of the area and properties there.

Looking for someone local or familiar with the area to give tips: what to avoid, crime rates (is that a thing?), neat restaurants, special challenges with the area (we lived in Vermont so definitely used to tons of snow/cold/winds), anything I am missing, anything special I should know about buying internationally?

I do plan to visit the area later this summer so any suggestions of what to see while there would be cool.

Thanks!

My guess as to why you didn’t get a reply is that your questions are really big and broad. You’ve essentially asked “how do I move to Sault Ste. Marie?” which is beyond the scope of this forum. I would try asking more specific questions in more than one thread, over a period of time. The thing is, this is an American message board and there’s only a few of us Canadians here. There may not be a single regular user who knows what you need to know about moving to the Sault.

I think a Google search would also be a great start. Also, I’m pretty sure there will be a reddit group for the Sault. There is a pretty big Ontario subreddit. Maybe the folks there can help if you ask specific questions, one at a time. Like when you asked for advice on what to avoid…what in general? Do you mean parts of the city to avoid? People to avoid? I hear Doug from Sault Ste. Marie is a real prick, so I can help you there. Anyways, I hope my advice helps.
