Driving in Canada at night and seeing how over-lit Canadian towns are at night....maybe that is where it started??

Those over-lit towns at night are intended to block out the northern lights and to discourage the polar bears and sasquatches from hitting the pubs at night. It doesn't work though, the critters still like to roll into towns at night and be the life of the party.

Never heard this one. All winter long, I looked out the window and saw people ice fishing at night, and ski-doos were zipping across the lake at all hours. Don't recall any screams of fear.
