How many of you are aware of this provision?

How many of you have a friend or relative who has already accessed this provision?

This man's wish was to make more people aware of it's existence.

I know this fellow personally from our previous life as RV'ing Snowbirds and it is his journey that has made me aware of MAID:

Since these links were created there has been much discussion and improvement to the legislation, primarily though the efforts of people like Ron who have lobbied and argued their position regarding early choosing and the required threshold of physical in conjunction with cognitive decline.

Quite aware.

I remember Sue Rodriguez back in 1991 making headlines here in BC in her fight for the right to die. She was unsuccessful, but it brought the issue forth for a lot of Canadians.

I personally don't know anyone, but a friend has had two friends who chose that path. Both had horrible incurable cancers where pain management no longer worked.

It is a strict process. Here is the process in BC

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)

Quite aware, I am involved in the provision of MAID and work with the terminally ill. I think awareness of it is quite high, but awareness of palliative care - what it is, what resources are available, and what to expect - isn't high enough, and full awareness of palliative care services is essential for fully informed consent to MAID to truly be present. It's less controversial and thus less interesting, but I think we need to raise awareness about palliative care in society so that more people understand what it is.

My Canadian partner's aunt took advantage of this about two years ago. In her 80s, terminal cancer with constant pain, no hope of recovery.

Died on her own terms out in BC with her last view that of the mountains she loved.

Nice turn of words

I don't think anyone does. I myself can't imagine me doing it, but then again, I don't have a terminal illness.

It's one of those things that it's nice to know, if I do want it, it's there.

It is ONLY my decision. The system is set up to ensure that.
