You are not wrong. That is why I worded my post including: "the Catholic and other faiths having a direct and hands on (no pun intended) participation in their mistreatment"

The various provincial gov't's were only too happy to offload responsibilities of teaching natives to any faith based org's that stepped up to the plate back then. The system was rife with corruption with those schools being funded on a per-head basis in some cases, with even some deaths going un-reported to keep getting those gov't stipends.

Maskwacis to ‘Freedom Convoy’ protesters during Pope visit: ‘Your agendas do not have a place’
Quote:
Stay away, you are not welcome. That’s the message leaders from Maskwacis have for members of the Freedom Convoy who may plan to protest during Pope Francis’ apology at the central Alberta First Nation community next week.
Quote:
A joint statement issued Friday by the chiefs of Maskwacis said the event there on July 25 is for survivors of residential schools — not an opportunity to steal the stage. “On behalf of our community, we request that Freedom Convoy protestors planning to attend the apology to please stay home or find a place to protest that is not in our territory. “The attempts from the Freedom Convoy demonstration to try to take over First Nations initiatives distracts from these important events. We ask for all protestors to respect our survivors. This is a time for truth, reconciliation and healing.

Good. It had no place there.

I am neither Catholic nor First Nations, nor heck, even Canadian, but I am human and I was very moved by the events of today.

the Cree woman singing the Cree version of Oh Canada which apparently was not on the program was so powerful, you could just see in her face what it meant

Something to remember 'til my end of days. I had never envisioned Oh Canada being sung in ANY native language. A "wake-up" moment.

Not at all. It was on CBC all day long. Pretty much the ONLY thing on.

I wonder if they translated the English or French lyrics (they’re very different) into Cree, or if it’s entirely different lyrics .
