This was a interesting case since, the illegal was Canadian.
So I was interested in both US reporting of it, compared to Canadian reporting of the crime.

No, there's not. A short google reveals all sorts of mainstream media articles - local television stations, newspapers, NPR, etc. - reporting on crimes by non-citizens unlawfully present in the United States.
The following are all mainstream media outlets. I got these stories from one google, found them as fast as I could click and cut-and-paste the URLs, and stopped when I got to half a dozen. I didn't have to do a deep dive for them; they're a few keystrokes away, lots of them. I could have kept going and going.
