It can be very subtle and as you say, we all have " prejudices " that we might not even realize we have.

The great thing though, is the law is on our side and the vast majority of Canadians are accepting.

I find it fascinating to delve deep into one's self to try to unearth these. It is a part of a growth journey. Most of us don't want to admit that we have these prejudices, so we just gloss over them but learning about these things will make one a better, more just individual. The more of those we have, the more just our society becomes.
