sure it pays good but since most people that are posting have never been through a winter up in northren alberta. it might not be the best choice working outdoors in the oil patch.
Housing and rents are affordable in Delta and Surrey"..............spoken like a true BCer.
Delta and North and Central Surrey are both ugly and crime ridden. Rents are relatively affordable. If you actually want to buy a place they are only "affordable" compared to Vancouver where the average SFH has hit a record $1.388 million.
If you are looking for a decent house in a nice safe neighbourhood best of luck trying to find one ANYWHERE under half a million.........you'll need it.
Take the price of Toronto and double it, take Montreal and Ottawa and triple it.

WOW really!
I have not look at the latest stats package of either REBGV nor FVREB for a while now. It would be interesting to get the numbers for Delta and Surrey.

About 7 years ago, I knew someone who was paying about $500 a month for pretty nice one bedroom apartment in an area within walking distance of a shopping center and was surrounded by a number of convenience stores and so on.
The vacancy rate in Winnipeg is now very low. My sister rents in Osborne Village and her rent is $950 a month.
Winnipeg has a very rich history in ag-business , insurance , and transportation. it has always been prominent in the arts. THE GOOD OLE DAYS of 'Chicago of the North" are obvious in some great buildings and literally millions of Elm trees which line the boulevards. . Assiniboine Park is a spectacular testament to great planning of the past.
It has world class summer lake country meccas which rival the Muskoka area. It is friendly and genteel.
Sadly, the violent crime rate which has escalated over the years , is mostly "contained" to the North End, but in recent years it has spread to the Inner City , and the northern part of the West End. Violent crime victims are generally and disproportionately involved in crime themselves - gang related . A growing population of thugs and car thieves seems to be confined to these areas .
There are no freeways in Winnipeg ... Our city employs the worst traffic planners in Canada. Rights of Way have been sold off to developers by corrupt politicians , and a conflict exists between "short sighted developer-friendly" and "socialist NDP idiots " ... Examples of this are most evident in our "rapid transit " system, and the new Bomber Stadium .
Thankfully, there are some great schools : private and public .
It has been frustrating that the Harper PC government has chosen to crap on Winnipeg by moving a lot of Winnipeg operations to Alberta : The provincial government on the other hand , is pathetic in management of budgeting . Worse is their management of health , Hydro , and appointments of friends .
Still. the good outweighs the bad and families can enjoy a wonderful life here.
I recently moved to Winnipeg from Burlington Ontario. In my case, I work for a company in Montreal and mostly work from home. I don't know much about job prospects here but I like it as a city. Everything is 10-15 minutes driving distance. Cost of living is more economical compare to Toronto and Montreal. I had heard about crime rates here before moving but it is restricted to certain areas mostly. I live in south east and don't particularly worry about locking doors and leaving valuables in car. If you have kids, research schools before coming over. I may be wrong and someone may disagree with me but in my experience quality of education vary significantly from school to school here.
