We are going to immigrate by next 4 months to canada. We are deciding a location in canada to stay. So please suggest us what part of canada has low cost of living especially between Toronto and Calgary.

We would like to know about toronto's and calgary's apartment rents, salaries and job prospects.

I am interested in working as a social service worker, or customer service or as front desk co-ordinator. My husband would prefer to go in sales and marketing job preferably in automobiles industry.

For the initial period of stay after landing in canada please suggest any reasonable hotel / motel for 3 of us.we are having a 3.7 years old daughter.

Thanks and looking forward for prompt reply.

With best regards

I can give you some info on Calgary...

The labor market in Calgary is very good right now. However, there is still plenty of competition for each job. A 2 bedroom apartment in a nice, but not upscale, part of town should run $1,200-$1,500 per month.

A customer service rep or front counter employee would probably make around $35,000 per year

We don't have much, if any, automotive industry in Calgary. However, sales and marketing jobs can range wildly from $30K per year to $60K per year depending on experience, education, and level of responsibility.

Default Potential new immigrants seeking vital information

We are an Indian family of 3 (parents and a daughter child aged 3.7 years), immigrating to Canads within next 3-4 months. We are in the process of researching key information on Canada, such as,

1. Right place and location for the initial period of stay in Canada
2. Job propsects.
3. Cost of living expenses
4. Taxes
5. Higher savings potential

Please advise us on the above counts. As per our research on Canada, we are of the opinion that Toronto will be the right place for us to settle. Any views on the place of stay - Toronto or Alberta or any other part of Canada??

My husband, the principal applicant has 15 years of senior-level managerial work experience in the field of Sales & Marketing and Management functions. He has worked in multiple industry sectors and in multiple roles and responsibilities. Academically, he has a post graduation masters degree in management (MBA-Marketing) and is an engineer (Bachelor Of Engineering-Electronics & Telecommunications). He has worked in India and the Middle East markets. WHAT WILL BE THE JOB PROSPECTS FOR HIM IN CANADA?
WHAT WILL BE SALARY LEVELS FOR HIM IN TORONTO & ALBERTA

Thanks
AJS

I would say that there is no worse industry right now than automobile in Canada. Large companies are all laying off staff, a lot.

One thing to consider is taxation. Alberta generally has the lowest tax rates in Canada. Sales taxes in Ontario, for example, total 13% between GST & PST. This is 160% more than the 5% (GST only) charged in Alberta.

If you have it narrowed down to Ontario and Alberta, visit both provinces and decide based on what you see. Some people are happier in Ontario and others are happier in Alberta. Only you will know which province meets your needs.

This is very true. Now is not the time to be in the automotive industry.
