Today I hear rumor from a colleague saying Canadian wireless phone operators' notorious and outrageous "system access fee", which is $6.95 for Rogers and $8.95 for Telus and Bell will soon be scrapped. Is it true? It will be fantastic if it is. This fee is close to robbery with no reasonable economic and financial ground. No American company charges that.
You remember the very recent CRTC frequency spectrum auction that the federal government held and made $4 Billion+ on? Think of the system access fee as a way to pay that off...
The ugliest thing is that Rogers etc separate the fee as if this goes to the government or something instead of directly going to their profit.
