I'm currently holding a WX-1 Worker "business visitor" visa, which expires in April 09, no work permit yet. I'm assigned to a project in Montreal which most likely will extend beyond next April, so the plan is for me to relocate there and apply for work permit from within Quebec.
Can anyone please advise on the following:
1. Quebec work permit takes ~4-5 months to get. How long can i stay in Quebec while remaining on US payroll on WX-1 without jeopardizing my business visitor status?
2. Can I move my household goods, including furniture, across the border while on WX-1? Will I face scrutinity from border officers? Will i have to pay import duty? What if I decide to bring my car from US - will I have to pay import duty on it?
3. Is there such a thing as private health insurance, that would cover my family while i'm not eligible for public healthcare due to my "visitor" status?
4... any other issues I'm not aware of yet...?
To clarify: I'm not planning to immigrate to Canada (at least for now). This is purely a long-term business trip, requiring my immediate presence in Montreal.
