I'd have to agree - even though I am usually pro-east coast

Victoria is beautiful
It is very 'granola' - lots of organic food/farmers
Excellent law school
Mild weather

Yes every province has different provinciial nomination schemes but you have to do a google for each web site and see if your profession is in demand. If you qualify for federal immigration there is no need to apply for provincial unless you are in a rush to move up to Canada. There are threads on CD on immigrating to Canada - you can do a Search to find those.

And you can go to craigslist to see what rents and houses sell for.
It is well known that Vancouver is the most expensive city in Canada for real estate. Calgary is also expensive. Toronto and Montreal less so. There is one thing to be told but you really need to do your own research for yourself to confirm what the facts are so you are best prepared.

I just read that Victoria has high homelessness rates, to me this is a little unsettling. Why is homelessness high in Vic ? Is it due to stricter local welfare rules, lack of money, or what else?

I'd assume that the crime rate may be high due to this?

It may sound simplistic but Victoria and Vancouver are the only two cities in Canada where you can sleep on the streets in the winter with the assurance that you won't freeze to death.

That does make sense, I live in Minnesota, wouldn't wanna be a homeless person here in winter.

How is the crime rate in Victoria?

Higher than one might think for a city with such a placid, genteel, stodgy pseudo-British reputation:

Victoria rates No. 10 for danger (http://www.timescolonist.com/travel/Victoria+rates+danger/1358427/story.html - broken link)

of course your likelihood of being a victim is low, ive never felt unsafe in Vic..
and if is in last place for murders..
youd have to compare those stats with where you live

I think you'd like London, Ontario. Seems to me to be above average in nearly all the categories you mentioned.
