I've got an upcoming interview in Fort Mcmurray with a major Oil&Gas Company. I went to college and graduated in the field of Stationary Engineering and currently hold a 4th class ticket. I was told that I would have to negotiate my wages and i'm curious to know what the going rate for my field is in this particular city? I've heard all of the stories and I imagine that the market is high for my trade but I don't want to over-shoot and lose the opportunity. I also don't want to under-value the position. Does anybody know what I should ask for?

Don't worry about it at this point. You won't need to choose your own salary. Nail the interview, get their offer, and then go from there. Sometimes salaries are negotiable (again, this happens after the offer) and other times, pay is on a scale and is somewhat fixed in the begining.

God luck.

Are all the professional engineering and management jobs up there held by Indians and Chinese, it's pretty much white males need not apply for the rest of Canada, is it like that in Fort McMurray too?
