Hello, as mentioned in my previous post, I am a Canadian citizen attempting to make the move to live/work in NYC for a year (or two) and will be applying for a TN Visa.
I know that before I apply, I need to find a job where my future employer agrees to sponsor me. My question lies in the fact that my line of work is not recognized under the NAFTA list, as I am in the music/film/advertising industry. Has anyone in the same or similar career been able to successfully get a TN Visa? If so, was it much more difficult for them to get it because they weren't on the NAFTA list?
Your best bet is to speak to a lawyer who works in this field. You don't want to go through the trouble of finding a job (esp in this economy) and then be denied entry/work visa into the States.
For a TN, you don't require "sponsorship", you only need a job offer letter from a company.
However, if your job is not on the NAFTA job list, then you won't be getting a TN. Period.
You'll likely need to look into getting an H1B, which does require sponsorhip, and is a lot more difficult to get compared to a TN.
Definitely do a google, and you'll find what you need.
