We were thinking about flying into Boston and heading north along the coast as much as possible towards the Nova Scotia/New Brunswick area. It looks like Newfoundland would be great to check out but on the Newfoundland site I was not seeing any ferries that connect to the western mainland. Am I just on the wrong site?

If there is......would this be an expensive ride?

Also, what are hotel accomodations like in the New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland area. Meaning are they sparse, expensive, etc.?

Thanks for any help.

There are four ferries to the island, one from Sydney (NS) to Port aux Basques, one from Sydney to Argentia, one from Goose Bay (Labrador) to Lewisporte, one from Blanc Sablon (far eastern Quebec) to St. Barbe.

Right So just to clarify for the OP, no ferries go from New Brunswick. And yes they are pricey, but Newfoundland is beautiful, so you kinda have to weigh the cost against the experience you get in return!

Hotel accommodations in all three provinces is like anywhere else - you have a selection of higher end, economy and B&B's. (Personally, I love the B&B experience as it allows you the interaction with locals (the hosts) and gives you more of a feel of the region you are in.

Here are the accommodation links:

New Brusnwick: Accommodations in New Brunswick

Nova Scotia:

Newfoundland:

Prices are typically comparable to what you would pay in the USA for similar accommodations.

How much time are you planning to spend travelling through the area?
