I was looking at some apartments away from Downtown Toronto and decided to check out some of the GTA also. Everything seems to be the same cost whether your downtown, in Etobicoke or anywhere else in the GTA for that matter. Then I looked at Hamilton to see what apartments go for.

Is there any particular reason why its SO cheap to live in Hamilton. There's 1 Bd's downtown for 500.00 per month. You couldn't get a shoebox in a dive for that kind of money in Toronto. Hamilton is basically Burlington, but yet when you look at places in Burlington, its the same as the rest of the GTA. Its not location, so.. What is it?

Hamilton is just a really depressing town. I travel the states all the time, Detroit, Philly, LA and I felt safer by myself in the rough areas of town in those towns than I ever did in Hamilton. The place is disgusting and the job market sucks there too thats why its so cheap to live there. I know a lot of people that live in the Dirty Hammer and drive to Toronto or take the GO for work so thats why its cheaper. Its Canada's armpit.

That's just your opinion. I happen to love Hamilton. It has beautiful parks, neighbourhoods, great location and a vibrancy all of its own. I have lived in Toronto, St. Catherines and Kitchener and I would rather live in Hamilton than any of them.
