One of my friends was diagnosed with a cancer and told she only had about six months to live. She has really had a remarkable peace and attitude about it. She recently asked me if I knew of any books she might could read that would speak to the situation. ( Now again she doesn't mean medical books, but those from a Christian/inspirational standpoint.)

She asked me because I tend to be an avid reader, but I'm clueless to recommend something on this topic. Have any of you read anything that "spoke" to you strongly about battling cancer, adversity, that sort of thing? Would appreciate any recommendations.

Hope for the Journey Through Cancer by Yvonne Ortega and Your Guardian Angel's Gift by Christine Clifford. I've read the latter but not the former....gave the latter to a friend of our daughter's whose mother was battling cancer and she said it really helped her.

It's not "religious" per se, but I have heard the cancer version of the "Chicken Soup" books was good.

That's a good suggestion, too. Unfortunately, I sent a book to my friend who was inquiring about it and I got an email back from her husband telling me that her condition has rapidly deteriorated and she is asleep most of the time now. Her hospice nurse doesn't even think she will last 2 more weeks.

I'm so sorry. I hope her nurse is wrong.

Chicken Soup for the Breast Cancer Survivor's Soul

Good reading for anyone, religious or not.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. Regrettably, my dear friend passed away about 2 weeks ago. If anyone has any further suggestions, however, you can feel free to continue to post them here in case others might want the suggestions.
