My latest mamo apparantly showed calcium deposits in my left breast. If they see only one it's no big deal, but a cluster or a few means it could turn to cancer they say. I have never heard anyone say they had calcium turn into something cancerous. I have to go back in a few months for another mamo. I have implants from 20 years ago so there's not alot of tissue to have problems in. I am so surprised at this. Anyone familiar with it???
My understanding is that any calcification is cancer until proven otherwise.
But plenty of women have plenty of harmless calcifications. brief explanation
I went through this about 10 years ago.
Calcifications were spotted on my mammogram and I had to go back for a biopsy. It was scary and a bit painful but everything turned out okay.
I have had a lot of mammograms since then and I am fine.
My mom went through the same thing, more frequent mammography because of microcalcifications. She finally had a stereotactic biopsy of a cluster of them, which proved benign.
This is what I have bookmarked about breast microcalcifications: "Microcalcification: A common sign of breast disease found by mammography is microcalcification -- very small deposits of calcium, deposited in breast tissue. Thew calcifications are usually of varying shapes frequently occur in tight groups, and are found in benign (NOT CANCEROUS) and malignant CANCEROUS) conditions. Sometimes these calcifications, seen on mammogram, occur without an associated mass.
Clusters of microcalcifications are routinely biopsied. However, when the cytology (cell examination) is benign but the type of calcification is still of concern, it may still be necessary to surgically remove or excise the calcification for tissue or histologic examination.
Mammography, whether done by X-ray film or the Xerox technique (an X-ray that produces a blue image on paper), is considered the "gold standard" for detection of early breast cancer. Follow-up with mammography of those patients with microcalcifications is very important. The finding of a change in the pattern, or a few new calcifications, may allow early detection of a small or "minimal" cancer. This why it is necessary to have more frequent mammography when recommended by your doctor."
Hi can somebody tell me if there is a natural way to get rid of calcification on breast tissue.I know some people said vitamin K2 and D3 taken together and one said Sepia tablet get rid of calcification. Has anybody had own experience of naturally getting rid of calcification?
I've seen a few sketchy claims for "reducing/removing breast calcifications" over the years but the "science" behind them didn't seem credible. I've never heard anyone say anything was effective. Why do you need to do something about them? Are they painful? Calcifications are very very common especially with age. The vast majority don't create any problems. Just in case you haven't seen this, more info about them:
This was the report from my diagnostic mammogram in January 2013:
FINDINGS: The breast tissue is heterogeneously dense. The additional
views confirm a cluster of calcifications in the upper left breast
which are probably benign. No associated mass or architectural
distortion..
IMPRESSION: Clustered calcifications in the upper left breast which
are probably benign. A followup unilateral left mammogram is
recommended in 6 months.
My primary care (who was a NP) didn't like the way the mammo looked and sent me to a breast specialist. On March 7 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Good job I didn't wait for that 6 month follow up! It was HER2+ too which is a very quick spreading cancer. Anyway - I hope they are going to see you back for a follow up...
I know this is many years old but recent posts might misinterpret.
From the OP,
"I have never heard anyone say they had calcium turn into something cancerous."
Calcium is a mineral that can form crystals and become hard as a hard and become radiopaque which makes it easy to see on X rays. It is not cellular material that can turn into cancer. It is a marker that something is going on in that region causing a biological response by your body and often caused by inflammation, infection or even cancer. It is a host response to repair or even wall off offending bodies like microorganisms. The crystalline hydroxyapatite calcium salts are deposited as part of a repair process. It is a local process and not one that is systemic (throughout your whole body). It is not associated with high blood calcium levels although certainly some cancers can yield high blood calcium levels by a variety of means.
"Hi can somebody tell me if there is a natural way to get rid of calcification on breast tissue."
Because it is a localized event and not a systemic effect there is no way to directly localize anything you take to prevent it. If you were to have hypercalcemia then of course there would be ways to reduce your bodies calcium levels. It you were to have urinary stones made of calcium then there would be some attempted treatment for that.
The bottom line is that no treatment is needed for that and it serves as a marker for cancer vigilance both at the radiological level.

Calicifications can be benign or a sign of a local cancer cluster. If there is a cluster usually a biopsy done to check what the situation is. If it is cancerous, it will be removed to prevent it spreading to other parts of the body.
