I was reading about this on Time Magazine about how some oncologists are experimenting with a ketogenic diet to fight incurable cancer. Many of them theorise that cancer runs efficiently on glucose which helps it grow and spread and some studies are showing that it does poorly when it runs on ketones from a high fat low carb diet.

For those interested.

actually I just read an article in the Wall Street Journal about how patients on Glucophage had some tumors shrink. Glucophage is a Type 2 diabetes drug and when you take it you cut off basically sugar, so this went to stop tumor growth and actually shrunk them. I found it very interesting because I do a serious low carb diet and never felt better. I eat alot of fat, and protien !! I think sugar is a main cause of cancer. there is a ton of info on low carb and cancer. I have that wall street journal article hard copy if interested I can mail. PM me if wanted. Marilyn

correction its metaformin just again a type 2 diabetes drug. Like I said I have the article if interested I can mail. DOnt have a way to scan. Marilyn

well I have the article and basically it does not say sugar is the main cause of cancer, it does imply that when we cut off our sugar intake, cancer does not grow and sometimes tumors do shrink. I can mail you a copy of the article

Its actually a treatment for cancer. Sorry if it sound like sugar is the cause. I am not here to start issues. My mom died of cancer and believe me if I could have saved her I would.

Like I have said before. Sugar or glucose is used to diagnostic work. As far as cancer goes, the disease is metabolic meaning it takes nutrients from all sources.

It doesn't have an effect on rate of spread or how it metastases.

This just out today from the University of Alabama at Birmingham are reporting in their clinical studies on lung cancer that restricting glucose and calorie intake extends the life of healthy cells and speeds the death of precancerous cells reducing the cancers spread and growth rate.

Another interesting study from the Duke School of Medicine.

Thanks, I have been skeptical of low carb, diets particularly those that eliminated fruits and root vegetables but this is definitely interesting and I appreciate it being shared.

My father died from lung cancer that spread throughout his body and he also had troubles with too high blood sugar towards the end as well, so I wonder if the cancer may also push that metabolism to benefit its own growth?
