Hello guys

My brother, 25, owns a 2001 mazda 626, 113k miles and lives in MN (twin cities area). He bought this, his first car, in Sept 2013 and has had insurance since Feb 2014. His six month cost has been $650 which includes comprehensive coverage + collision + roadside assistance, no rental car coverage. He has a discount applicable for a student.
He paid for 6 months and now the quote for next six months apparently has come to 760 that includes no collision. He is living at the same location as earlier when he first got the insurance. He has made no insurance claims and has had no incidents noted against him/driving record.

The sales rep mentioned "the prices have gone up" as reason for this increase in cost.

Does this deal sound right? A friend of his leasing a 2014 Jetta and is about 30 is paying 720 per 6 months all inclusive.

I would start shopping for a new insurance company. I used to get that "prices have gone up". So I voted with my wallet and dropped the company.

Shop around and ask for the $500.00 deductible to get your best rate. Based on what I'm hearing you should be in the $650-$750 range depending on your zip code address.

I did the same thing. They upped my insurance after a year and I started shopping around. It is so easy to do that online nowadays that it is worth the time to get savings.
I recommend the OP's brother definitely go online to the different insurance websites and get an online quote. I bet he can get a real savings over that $760 semi-annual rate.

It really just depends. Insurance price depends on so many different factors(age, location, coverage, driving record, ect). The real question is, is that quote inline with others in your area.

Agents doesn't have a say when it comes to prices. Prices go up and down all the time. The only who has a say is you, the customer. If you aren't happy, switch to a different company.

This.

And have him get a quote for a $1000 deductible. That's how I've kept the expense down on insuring my teenage drivers, and it might help for him.
