Fair enough but that is also my angle. I left a message to the adjuster is saying I got whatever coverage I deemed necessary to avoid any more liability that neither insurance company was going to cover. I also mentioned the rental was arranged by them and there was no disclosure on what would/wouldn't be paid (so it is not a matter of just me not knowing).
Are you sure that your own car insurance wouldn't cover you? That seems odd, if you have coverage you'd have coverage if you rented a car most commonly. There are some exceptions like if you rent a Corvette but otherwise, no.

So basically you are putting the cart before the horse. You went out and got the rental and got the insurance coverage through the rental carrier... but never asked the other insurance carrier if they would cover the additional insurance coverage. There are no insurance companies that will cover your additional insurance that you purchase through a rental carrier. You should have asked questions first before getting it. If you dont have any collision coverage on your policy then it is incumbent on you to get that coverage to make sure if you get in another accident at least the rental company wont be coming after you for that.

Next time, ask questions first if you dont know about what is supposed to be going on. I am almost certain someone will tell you.
